Men’s Counselling Saskatoon

For Men in Saskatoon Who Look Fine on the Outside but Feel Exhausted Underneath

You may still be getting everything done.

You go to work.  People count on you.  You deal with problems as they come up and keep moving.

From the outside, there may not be much to suggest anything is wrong.  But lately, everything takes more out of you.

You have less patience when you get home.  Small decisions feel irritating.  You do not want another conversation, another request, or another thing that needs your attention.

Maybe you’re sleeping but still wake up tired.  Maybe weekends are spent recovering instead of enjoying anything.  Maybe you keep telling yourself you just need a few easier weeks, but they never seem to come.

Men’s counselling Saskatoon can help when you are still functioning, but you know you cannot keep running at the same pace indefinitely.

If you are outside Saskatoon, I also work with men throughout Saskatchewan by video or phone.

When Being the Reliable One Starts Wearing You Down

Being dependable can make it easy to miss how exhausted you have become.

You are the person who handles things.  At work, at home, with money, with family.  When something needs doing, you usually find a way to do it.

The problem is that there is rarely a point where everything is finished.  One responsibility gets handled and another replaces it.

Eventually, the cost starts showing up somewhere else: your patience, your sleep, your motivation, your relationship, or how much energy you have left for anything that is not absolutely necessary.

When the pressure starts showing up as constant tension, poor sleep, overthinking, or feeling like you never fully switch off, anxiety counselling can help you understand what is keeping your system stuck in high gear.

Counselling can help you figure out what is draining you, what has become unsustainable, and what needs to change before exhaustion becomes the way you live.

When Exhaustion Starts Looking Like Irritability

Sometimes burnout does not feel like sadness or exhaustion at first.

It feels like everyone is getting on your nerves.

Interruptions feel unbearable.  One more request feels like too much.  You get home wanting quiet and find yourself annoyed that anyone needs anything from you.

That does not excuse snapping at people.  But it can help explain why your patience has become so short.

Men’s Counselling Saskatoon, Available Online

When your schedule is already full, adding travel across the city for another appointment can make counselling easier to put off.

Sessions are held securely online, so you can meet from home, work, your vehicle while parked somewhere private, or another place where you can talk without interruption.

Online counselling can be especially useful if your work hours change, you work long days, or the idea of adding another commute to your week is the last thing you want.

Why Men in Saskatoon Seek Counselling

Most men reach out when something starts feeling harder to manage. Common reasons include:

Running on empty

You are still getting things done, but everything takes more effort and there is not much left when the day is over.  A lot of men keep pushing through this stage for a long time.

Work that never really switches off

Even when you are home, your head is still at work, solving problems, planning tomorrow, or thinking about what you forgot.  If you’re still getting everything done but cannot fully switch off, read High Functioning Anxiety in Men: Wh You Can’t Switch Off.

Shorter patience

You are more easily irritated by interruptions, noises, questions, or things that normally would not bother you this much.

Feeling disconnected from your own life

You are doing what needs to be done, but there is less enjoyment, energy, or interest in things you used to look forward to.

What We Look At When You’re Running on Empty

You do not need to arrive with a clear explanation for why you are exhausted.

We can start with where your energy is going.

What does your workday demand from you?  What happens when you finally get home?  What are you still thinking about at 10:30 at night?  What keeps getting pushed to “later” because there is always something more urgent?

We also look at the things that keep the pressure going: difficulty saying no, feeling responsible for everything, waiting until something becomes urgent before dealing with it, or believing you should be able to handle more than you realistically can.

The goal is not to make you less responsible.

It is to make sure being responsible is not costing you your sleep, patience, relationships, and whatever energy you have left for yourself.

Yes. All my appointments are in the evenings.

Yes. Many men find online sessions work just as well as in-person. We focus on practical tools for real situations when pressure builds.

No. Most men I work with say exactly that at the start. We focus on what’s happening in your life and what’s setting off your reactions, not on processing every emotion.

Most men I work with haven’t. You don’t need experience or the right words. Just a willingness to have an honest conversation.

Book a free 20-minute consultation. We talk about what’s been going on and whether this feels like a good fit. No pressure, no commitment.

Yes. I provide direct billing to both NIHB and insurance companies.  I am a registered social worker and most benefit plans cover social workers.  Please check your benefits to ensure coverage is available.

Not Sure What You Would Even Talk About?

This is a completely reasonable place to start.

The free 20 minute consultation is not a therapy session.  It is a chance to tell me what has been getting harder lately, ask questions, and get a sense of whether working together makes sense.

You do not need to prepare anything beforehand.

If you want a better sense of who you would be talking with before you book, you can read more about Patricia (Patti) Dekowny.
