Couples Counselling in Saskatchewan

Online couples counselling across Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Ontario

Most couples don’t come to counselling because one person is ‘the problem.’  They come because the way they have been trying to handle things is no longer working.

Maybe one of you keeps bringing something up because it still does not feel resolved, while the other is thinking, We have already talked about this.  What else do you want me to say?

Maybe small conversations turn into the same argument.  One pushes harder, the other gets defensive, goes quiet, or leaves the room.  Then you both cool off, carry on, and hope it will be different next time.

For a while, it might be.  Then you are right back there again.

Couples counselling is not about deciding who is right.  It’s about understanding the pattern the two of you keep getting pulled into, what each of you is reacting to, and how to change what happens next.

If you keep having the same argument without resolving anything  Are You Having the Same Argument Over and Over? explains why couples get trapped in these patterns

I provide virtual couples counselling throughout Saskatchewan, including Regina, Saskatoon, and rural communities.  I also work with couples across Alberta and Ontario.

What Couples Usually Want Help With

Couples often come to counselling because they want to:

  • Have a hard conversation without it turning into the same fight
  • Feel heard without one person pushing harder and the other shutting down
  • Rebuild trust after hurt, secrecy, or infidelity
  • Feel like partners again, not just roommates, parents, or people managing a household

You do not have to be on the edge of separation to come to couples counselling.  Sometimes the clearest sign is that you keep trying to fix the same thing and somehow end up back in the same place.

If one person goes quiet, leaves the conversation or cannot find the words to respond,  Why Do I Shut Down in Arguments? explains what may be happening.

How Couples Counselling Helps

Couples counselling is not about replaying every argument or deciding who handled it worse.

We look at the pattern that keeps taking over: what starts the conflict, what each of you hears or assumes in the moment, and what each person does next.

Then the work becomes more specific:

  • Noticing the cycle earlier, before the argument gets as far as it usually does
  • Learning how to say what matters without pushing, blaming, or shutting down
  • Understanding what each person is reacting to, not just what they are arguing about
  • Rebuilding trust and connection after repeated conflict, hurt, or infidelity

If a comment from your partner feels like criticism, The Real Reason You Get Defensive So Fast explains why that reaction can take over so quickly.

The goal is not perfect communication.  It is being able to handle stress, disagreement, and hurt without doing more damage to the relationship.

If One or Both of You Are Unsure About Couples Counselling

It is common for one person to be more ready than the other.

Maybe one of you is worried the session will turn into an hour of being blamed.  Maybe you have tried talking about the same issue so many times that you are not convinced another conversation will help.

You do not have to arrive agreeing on what the problem is.

I am not here to pick a side.  I pay attention to the pattern between you, what each person is reacting to, and where the conversation keeps getting stuck.

If one of you says, “That’s not how I see it,” that matters.  We work from both versions of what is happening.

The first goal is not to force agreement.  It is to understand the cycle well enough that the two of you can start responding differently.

What the First Couples Session Looks Like

You do not need to come in with the same version of what is wrong.

I usually start by hearing from both of you about what has been happening, what keeps getting stuck, and what each of you wants to be different.

We are not going to solve years of conflict in the first 50 minutes.  The first job is to understand the pattern: where conversations tend to change, what each person reacts to, and what happens next.

You can disagree with each other in session.  You can disagree with me too.

You do not need to arrive united.  We need enough information to understand what keeps happening between you.

Why Choose Online Couples Counselling?

Online sessions remove some of the logistics that make couples put counselling off.

For many couples, that mean:

  • Less time spent driving to and from appointments
  • Easier scheduling around work, kids, or shift work
  • No need to arrange childcare just for travel time
  • Joining from a private space where both of you feel comfortable talking

Wondering about cost or coverage?  You can review my counselling fees, insurance and direct billing information before booking.

The counselling itself does not change because it is online.

We still work on the conversations that keep going wrong, the patterns driving those conversations, and what each of you can do differently when the same moment comes up again.

What You Can Expect From Me

I am not here to decide which one of you is right.

I pay attention to what happens between you: what starts the conversation, where it changes, what each person reacts to, and how both end up back in the same pattern.

You can expect me to:

  • Interrupt the cycle when the conversation starts going in the same direction it always does
  • Make room for both versions of what happened, even when they are very different
  • Help you say what you mean without the conversation turning into blame, defence, or shutdown
  • Keep the focus on what each of you can do differently when the pattern shows up again

You do not have to agree on everything for couples counselling to help.  You do need a way to have the disagreement without doing more damage to the relationship.

You Don’t Have to Wait Until the Relationship is Falling Apart

If the same arguments keep coming back, the distance is growing, or you are both tired of trying to fix this on your own, that is enough reason to start.

A free 20-minute consultation gives us a chance to talk about what has been happening, what keeps getting stuck, and whether couples counselling makes sense for the two of you.

You do not have to agree on everything before you book.  You just need to know that the way things are going is not how you want them to stay.

If you’d rather start with a message, you can do that below.
